Mark and Alice |
Alice and Mark, Mark and Alice. One of
our favorite East Coast kite couples. They fly single lines, stunt kites, tiny
kites; Mark buggies and flies in Rok battles. Alice
is half of the master's pair team Ms. Matched and they fly on teams (3-person
team W.A.T.T. and the quad-team The Bag
Ladies). They are kite collectors, kite designers and makers, kite-making
teachers, volunteers, organizers. If it has to do with kites, Mark and
Alice are enthusiastic. Alice is quick and proud to say her dad is a
kiter. Not something many of us can say. Alice also builds kites with
her nephew and has entered the finished kites into kite building competitions
with him. We first met Alice and Mark on a trip
to Berck, France and have enjoyed our friendship ever since. Mark was
Bob's very-early-morning-down-on-the-beach kite buddy. One of my favorite
memories of that trip were the bakery forays Alice and I made into town
each day. French pastries for lunch on a French beach at an
International Kite event. Very hard to beat that! Something I really
like about Mark and Alice: they always makes the line laundry or kite when
they ask for our patterns and/or instructions. And always with their own
and
different twist. Note
the chain line laundry picture: the last link is broken. The Spiky balls
are much bigger than mine. Alice's Wadsworth Rotating boxes are terrific
with their Pac Man theme... and her cat kite has a very interesting
personality. Hmmm. Can't find that picture. I love Mark's French
Military kite. It is what I call a happy kite. It makes you smile when
you see it. Click on the pictures
