John and Marzlie, terrific kite people. They are
also a great couple and very dear friends. Newly retired, they are
having a great time building some wonderful new creations. They
are experienced kite class teachers, having taught at Ft. Worden and the
World Kite Museum in Long Beach. They build superb kites and banners and
have popularized the Bargello patchwork technique, resulting in
exquisitely decorated kites. John is always helpful with suggestions for
those nagging technical kite problems. One great tip we got from him is
"line-in-a-bag". Make a small bag with a drawstring closure
and toggle with a loop inside on the bottom of the bag. Attach your heavy weight
flying line to the inside loop. Stuff the rest of the line in and lark's
head the free end around the drawstring. Deploys easily, no bulky line
winder to haul, packs well. John and Marzlie are well-known in the Pacific
Northwest having lived in (but escaped from) Oregon. No
kite festival is quite complete without them adding their friendliness,
their beautiful kites, and their love of kiting. |
