Bob's and Charmayne's kites in 2025

The kite storage shelves and kite bags are getting ever fuller. Here is what we built and repaired in 2025.

Repairs to yet another old kite. This time it was to our Jolly Roger Hi-Flier. It split open at the kite fly in Pueblo, Colorado. Jolly Roger  Yes, that date is May, 2000.
A grand old kite.
The repairs were needed right down the center...

And it is ready to fly again.

The new Peter Lynn heart kite. Peter gave everyone many color options. I chose purple. The heart was easy to make. Peter Lynn heart
Fanø again in 2025! Another great year.  And the UCVGP project was completed by all. After a rocky start! The group chose me to carry home the golden cabochon in 2024. This meant I (Charmayne) either got to or had to choose the next project. What??
I enlisted Bob's help and he found 3 or 4 potential possibilities. It is a little tough as the group has made many, many classic kites either within the group or singly. This one I liked. Simple but will it fly? The group collectively groaned and said it would not. But they each made the kite regardless. True UCVGP members.  The Monocellular Donzella. Here are some of the kites and builders.

A few flying. We were spread out, little kites.

Frits told the group the kite was remade in the the early 1960s and sold commercially. They called it Super Planeur Majestic.  Interesting. Made again in 2025 by the UCVGP members.
He also sent the group the photo to the right from a clipping he has.

3rd Bolwelt bol
Our third Bolwelt Bol. Ours are made of Soar Coat. Nice spin and high bounce.

Our other is yellow and pink.

We saw the cutest bouncing balls on Fanø. And then at the welcome party we discovered them for sale. We bought one to shamelessly use as a pattern for 3 more balls. The red mean face is the commercial one. Ours are below. The face designs are our own. No, we don't sell them or make them as gifts. Commercial bouncing ball

Bob's Christmas kite!   Bob's 2025 Christmas kite was only possible with the generousity and help of Carsten Domain. It is his original design, called Kaleido. He emailed the patterns and instructions (after translating them into English!) and helped me when I got stuck.
The lighter blue you see is the sky. Yes, holes in the kite.
Kaleido kite by C. Domain
The kite is based on hexagons. The 4 hexagons are made up of several pieces.  The outer framework on our kite is black.

More will be made to train together.  They will be more in keeping with Carsten's idea of a kaleidoscope. More colors. I was in a rush to get the Christmas kite done so I kept it simple. Thank you, Carsten.

To the right you see Bob's Kaleido in-progress and a close-up of my finished hem.
